The ultimate Body Transformer Can you imagine losing 60 pounds of weight then packing on another 100 pounds within the span of a few months? This unbelievable feat was achieved by Christian Bale who continues to astound people not only for his acting prowess, but also for the amount of dedication he puts into each role. He is so committed to playing a part that he willingly subjects his body to a seemingly rollercoaster ride of transformations from his normal weight to a gaunt, almost skeleton like look to a fully buffed out body.
After completely starving himself almost to death in the film The Machinist, Christian Bale was faced with the challenge to bring his weight back up, not only to his normal weight but to add 40 pounds more to portray Batman effectively.
Since his metabolism was almost destroyed after taking on the role of the Machinist, Christian Bale had to start eating everything in sight to bring his weight back up. This meant an increasingly high dosage of carbs, calories and protein in his diet. Since he couldnt overload his system, he initially had to go about it slowly until his body could take the food in properly.
To gain the musculature fit to wear the Dark Knights cape, Christian Bales workout included a lot of intense weight and resistance training plus a healthy dosage of plyometric circuit training. To build his lower body strength and musculature, he had to perform sprints, squats and lunges then couple it with chin-ups and pull-ups to develop his upper body strength and form.
Since Batman is expected to have a heavy frame, Christian Bale also had to develop his chest so it would pop out of his frame and chisel it out with high repetition, low set trainings. Focus on his arms and shoulders were next. This included a rotation of heavy sets and low reps to low sets with high reps.
Since Batman is a nimble fighter who is adept at all forms of martial arts, it is only natural for Christian Bale to follow suit. The added agility gained through this pursuit allowed Christian Bale to carry his added on bulk with the confidence of someone who has been in that weight class (220 lbs) for most of his life. In the end, Christian Bale was able to achieve a body that not even his archenemy can easily break in a short amount of time from what it was in the Machinist.
